What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is caused by pressure on the median nerve running from the forearm into the hand. The Carpal Tunnel is a small tunnel that contains the nerves and vessels of the hand.

Some conditions mimic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A thorough examination is required to differentiate other conditions from CTS such as diabetic neuropathy, pinched nerves in the neck, or even shoulder or elbow injury.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

  • Gradual Onset of Symptoms is most common
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Thumb, index, and middle finger usually affected first
  • Hand weakness
  • Difficulty grasping small objects

What causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

CTS is often the result of repetitive tasks and/or certain professions that affect the wrist area. Some of these activities and professions include:

  • Typing, database entry, computer usage (mouse and keyboard)
  • Industrial/assembly line work
  • Sewing
  • Manufacturing
  • Mechanics
  • Professional Musicians

In some cases, although rare, cysts, tumors, or fluid retention due to underlying health conditions could cause CTS. However, most cases can be relieved without invasive surgeries or contributing to the countrywide opioid epidemic.

It is our primary purpose to help our patients find pain relief as naturally as possible, avoid surgery and unnecessary medications, and get them back to enjoying their daily lives.
